Year 10 and 11 Latin GCSE students enjoyed a trip to Arbeia Roman Fort at South Shields followed by a visit to Segedunum at Wallsend. They were able to look around the sites which have excellent reconstructions of buildings as well as fantastic museums. The British Museum also has a travelling exhibition at Segedunum about the Roman Empire, with exquisite artefacts from Imperial palaces and provinces, which gave the students an excellent insight into Roman culture and society. The students also enjoyed playing a computerised 'Romanopoly' and dressing up in Roman outfits!  valete, discipuli! felix fortuna! magistra Baring.

Last week 60 of our year 10 Design and Technology students were involved in the Smallpeice Trust’s (not a spelling mistake!) Energiser Event. The event was focussed on informing our students about how engineering can play an important role in the development of renewable energies such as wind and solar power.

The students took part in various practical activities including creating some really impressive wind turbines to harness the power of the wind and building (and racing!) their own solar powered cars.

¡Buen Viaje!

spanish exchange 2015 leaving

On Wednesday we reluctantly said ¡Adiós! to our Spanish exchange students from Colegio Santa María De Yermo, Madrid, who have been staying with the families of year 11 and 13 QEHS students. They have had an amazing and very busy time. They spent some time in school, just as we did when we were in Madrid, and have also been out visiting the sights of the North East. Some very strong friendships have been formed (evidenced by the many tears at the airport!) which will hopefully last well into the future and some students are already making plans for a return visit. Two Spanish students remain in Hexham with their English families and are returning home at a later date. Thank you to everybody who has helped to entertain, accommodate and welcome all of them. ¡Hasta el próximo año, Yermo!

Our Under 15 cricket team successfully retained the county cup for the fourth successive year.

Put into bat we made 109 off our 20 overs with Mattie Percival top scoring with 50.

In reply Kings Priory, Tynemouth were dismissed for 94 with Mattie Pugh taking two wickets and Tom Scott bowling a very economical spell.
