Enthusiastic pupils from Years 9 and 10 have been taking to the Northumbrian pipes. Every week the distinctive sound of Northumberland's very own musical instrument can be heard along the ground floor of the Hydro building.

With help from the Northumbrian Pipers Society, learner-sets are now available for young people interested in learning the pipes. The Society is helping us keep costs for pupils down, and is also offering the chance for people to hire a set for longer term learning.

Recent invitations have arrived for our pipers to participate in performances at The Alnwick Garden, and as part of The Great Exhibition Of the North at the request of Virgin Money who want to showcase 'what makes the Northeast unique'.

Whether you're a musician already or a complete beginner, we welcome anyone, regardless of age. Join us on Friday lunchtimes!

A group of sixth form students have recently returned from a two week adventure to the southern Indian state of Karnataka. The group were based in a Tibetan settlement of Bylakuppe, at the incredible Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, which became their home for the duration of their visit. The monastery holds close ties with Queen Elizabeth High School and has done for many years. We are the only school group that has the privilege of visiting this Tibetan settlement, or any Tibetan settlement we think, where we are able to secure permits allowing us into this closely protected area.

During the Easter holidays, Year 12 students enjoyed the annual ski trip to Serre Chevalier.  Mrs Bevan sent through some photos of skiing and the slopes.

Staff and students recently raised an impressive £255.75 in the QEHS Easter Egg Raffle. A huge range of Easter eggs was donated to the raffle and all the money raised is going towards the upcoming trip to India and the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery fund.

Many thanks to everyone who donated eggs and congratulations to all the raffle winners!
