We are proposing to bring together Queen Elizabeth High School and Hexham Middle School to create a single 11-18 Secondary school. Although significant changes are unlikely to happen before September 2019, we believe that this shift could help secure the future of education in the Hexham area for the next 30 years or more.

The reasons for the change are that the local Three-Tier arrangements for schools do not fit with the national education system, which is based on the Primary-Secondary model; that this would help us become financially sustainable; and that it could open the door to much-needed capital investment in buildings and facilities.

Dear Parent/Carer

It has been brought to our attention that Snapchat has released an update yesterday and it has added a map feature that lets the user share their current location. While it is not the first app to offer a location sharing service it is a popular app with young people and we felt it was important to inform parents. The update is a concern because the user's location is available to “friends” (and other users) on a map and this updates when the app is being used. Used correctly this should not be an concern but students and parents need to be aware of the potential issues and how to avoid them.

To mark Refugee Week please could you donate any unwanted crockery and cutlery from home and take them to Mr Brook’s room – A11. They will be taken to the clients at West End Refugee Service (WERS) who are desperately in need of such items. QEHS has been particularly generous with their clothing donations in the past and they are so gratefully received. Hopefully we can do the same again with this collection. The collection will actually run until 14th July and not 23rd June as first publicised.

There will be an cake sale this Friday (23rd June) for QEHS students and all the money will go to WERS.

Thanks for your help

Congratulations to the QEHS women's rowing team who came second in the Intermediate women’s (IM3) coded quad race at Durham Regatta. The team were only beaten by a boat's length against Durham University who are two years their senior. A fantastic effort by all involved!

Mr Brown – Sixth Form Pastoral Leader.

A group of Sixth Formers travelled to Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in South India recently and this is a brief glimpse of their experiences. The photos below show time spent around the monastery; registering at the police station; time spent in the local school where they met their penpals; visits to other temples; a visit to a coffee plantation and Mysore palace and market.
