Thank you to all the parents/carers who attended the Welcome to Sixth Form Evening on Tuesday 20 September 2016. The presentation from the evening is available below as a PDF document.

Freshers' Fair 2016 was held on Thursday 15 September for all Year 12 students; the annual event showcased volunteering and extra-curricular opportunities available to Sixth Form students. There were over 20 stalls at the event with both school clubs and external organisations represented, including Oxfam, WECAN, Josie's Dragonfly Trust, Hexham Abbey, Northumberland National Parks, and Hexham Youth Initiative, who all presented their exciting opportunities to QE students. The afternoon had a great atmosphere and hopefully all the clubs and organisations now have a lot more Sixth Form volunteers! We are particularly proud of the contribution that our Sixth Form students make to the wider community and hope they continue to volunteer their time and effort in the future.

English Language and Maths GCSE resits take place week commencing 31 October 2016, as well as Admissions Tests for Year 13 students. Please see the Exams page for more information.

We would like to congratulate our outgoing Year 11 students for their fantastic GCSE results this summer. We know that they have worked incredibly hard and would be the first to thank their teachers and parents for the support they have been given. These results allow them to progress with confidence into our Sixth Form, or to their chosen college course or apprenticeship.

The Department for Education will publish new data to measure school performance this year. We are particularly proud of the fact that 80% of students achieved A*-C in both English and maths, which once again is the highest in Northumberland. The key results were as follows:

  • Percentage of students achieving A*-C in English: 87%
  • Percentage of students achieving A*-C in maths: 83%
  • Percentage of students achieving A*-C in both English and maths: 80%

There were a string of notable individual achievements with more than 50 students achieving 8 or more A* or A grades and a significant number of students achieving A*/A in every subject taken. All of Year 11 should be proud of their results. They have been a pleasure to teach and we look forward to welcoming many of them back into our Sixth Form this year.

The Hexham Middle School and Queen Elizabeth High School Hard Federation Governing Body has made the decision to convert to a Multi-Academy Trust with effect from 1 September 2016.  Please see the relevant letters below for more information.

We are delighted with the performance of our A Level students this summer. Their hard work and commitment has resulted in another fantastic set of exam results which has allowed them to progress to university, work or further training.

27 students achieved A*/A or Distinction/Distinction* in all of their subjects; 4 students have taken up places at Oxbridge; over 160 students applied for places at university and the vast majority have accepted their offers.

A more detailed breakdown of results will be available on the website in due course but in summary:

  • 36% of all grades were A*-A or Distinction*/Distinction
  • 65% of all grades were A*-B or Distinction*/Distinction
  • 86% of all grades were A*-C or Distinction*/Distinction/Merit
  • 99.6% overall pass rate

Once again these results are likely to place us in the top five state school sixth forms in the North-East. If you are currently in Year 11 at QEHS or another school and have not yet applied for a place for September 2016, there is still time to do so. Please note that, due to demand, some courses are now full but there are places still available across a range of subject areas.
