YDT Achieve National Success
Youth Dance Tynedale’s advanced group has been selected to take part in One Dance UK’s national youth dance festival for the second year running. ‘Requiem of Youth’ by Anthony Lo-Giudice is one of the works that will represent the North East in U Dance Salford 2016. YDT Advanced is made up of 8 past and present Sixth Form dance students and the performance at the festival in July will be their last with YDT. ‘Requiem of Youth’ explores the desires, fragility and the journey into adulthood most of this group are about to embark on. Dancers delve into motifs of fear and absence, haunting moments of joy and memories of elegiac themes of flight, fright and fight. Channeling the ebbs and flows of life as a young adult, the dancers have worked with Anthony to devise movement on the subject of fear, be it personal or universal.

Year 9 Boys Dance Project
Year 9 Boys Dance Project with Hit the Ground Running Dance Theatre Company
Last week the Drama and Dance Departments were very pleased to welcome Michael Heatley, Director of Hit the Ground Running, and dancers Alex Rowland and Ash Goosey as they embarked on a two-day residency with 14 Year 9 boys. Each day began with a technique class followed by creative workshops to develop a piece from the stimulus of Heroes.
At the end of the second day the boys performed the piece to an audience of Year 9 students and Alex and Ash presented a short duet from ‘Macho’, a work that explores the stigma surrounding men’s mental health. QEHS boys will perform their dance as a curtain raiser for the professional company when they premier ‘Macho’ at Dance City on Thursday 26 May 2016.
