Year 9 Boys Dance Project
Year 9 Boys Dance Project with Hit the Ground Running Dance Theatre Company
Last week the Drama and Dance Departments were very pleased to welcome Michael Heatley, Director of Hit the Ground Running, and dancers Alex Rowland and Ash Goosey as they embarked on a two-day residency with 14 Year 9 boys. Each day began with a technique class followed by creative workshops to develop a piece from the stimulus of Heroes.
At the end of the second day the boys performed the piece to an audience of Year 9 students and Alex and Ash presented a short duet from ‘Macho’, a work that explores the stigma surrounding men’s mental health. QEHS boys will perform their dance as a curtain raiser for the professional company when they premier ‘Macho’ at Dance City on Thursday 26 May 2016.

Peer Mentors FUSE Fairtrade Event
On Wednesday 16 March 2016, the FUSE Media Centre in Prudhoe hosted an engaging and inspiring day for local First and Middle School students based on designing and advertising their own Fairtrade products. Eight Sixth Form Peer Mentors from QEHS were invited to join in and help out on the day and did an amazing job with the groups that they worked with. The students worked on radio adverts, television adverts and posters which culminated in a showcase of the groups work during the afternoon. A great day was had by all students (and staff) with the possibility of some promising advertising careers ahead!
